Kilkenny — about 40 km from Carlow
Bathroom renovations in Kilkenny
Kilkenny is about forty kilometres from me, and I am straight about what that means: I am not the right call for two hours of odd jobs there, because the drive would cost you more than the work. A bathroom is different. It is days on site, so the distance stops mattering and the work is done by one pair of hands, from strip-out to the last bead of silicone.
Full bathrooms start at €6,500. That figure is priced per job rather than quoted as labour or all-in, and you get a written breakdown of what is and is not in it before anything is agreed.

What a full refit involves
- Strip-out and disposal of the old suite, tiling and floor
- First-fix pipework moved where the new layout needs it
- Walls and floor made ready — this is where most of the hidden time goes
- Tanking and waterproofing in the wet areas
- Wall and floor tiling, set out so the cuts land where they are least visible
- Suite, shower, screen and vanity fitted
- Sealing, trims and the making-good around the door and ceiling
Kilkenny houses, and the thing that ruins bathroom quotes
A lot of the city inside the ring road is older and has been divided, extended or re-plumbed more than once, frequently by different people who did not agree with each other. The room you can see is rarely the job. What decides the real price is what is behind the tiles: the state of the floor under the old suite, whether the waste runs where anyone would expect, and how much of the wall survives the strip-out.
Nobody can see that from photographs, and anyone who gives you a firm final figure without opening the room up is guessing — the correction arrives later, as a call about something unforeseen. What I do instead is price the work I can see, say plainly which parts cannot be known until day one, and tell you what each of those would add.
The rental and short-let stock in the city has its own version of this: bathrooms refitted cheaply about a decade ago, where the tiling is fine and the tanking behind it was never done. That one is worth checking before you spend anything.
How it is paid and how long it takes
My work carries a 6-month guarantee.
I do not run several jobs at once, so a bathroom in Kilkenny means I am in Kilkenny until it is finished. That is the practical advantage of booking a distant job with one person rather than a crew rotating between sites.
Anything needing a certified electrician or a registered gas installer is arranged separately and signed off by whoever is on the register for it. I will tell you up front which parts of your bathroom that applies to.
Getting a price
Photograph the whole room from the doorway, then each wall, then the floor. Send them on WhatsApp with a rough idea of what you want to change. You get my read of it and a written price for the part that can be priced, free, before anything is agreed.
Finished bathrooms, including the stages in the middle that nobody photographs, are on the work page.
All nine starting prices
Every price I work from is on one page, with what each figure does and does not cover. Nothing is quoted verbally and then adjusted later.
